Preparation of Neat Cement Slurry

uenergy

AIM: To prepare a Neat Cement Slurry.

SIGNIFICANCE:

1.
Neat cement slurry is used in cementing fresh
water zones to prevent the contamination of freshwater.

2.
Neat cement slurry is useful for cementing top
hole section where cement rheology is important

SCOPE:

This experiment covers the experimental preparation
of neat cement slurry.

THEORY: Cement slurry is a mixture of cement and water only,
Neat cement slurry, that is, cement without additives is used during, cementing
operations to isolate freshwater zones, thereby, avoiding freshwater
contamination.

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE:

1.
792g Of cement (dry) should be measured out
using Analytical balance.

2.
349Ml of water should be measured out using the
measuring cylinder.

3.
The measured quantity of water should be placed
in the mixing blender and mixed at a speed of 400rpm

4.
The measured cement sample should be  added not more than 15 seconds into the
water in mixing blender

5.
When the cement is added the mixing blender
should be stirred continuously using a spatula and the speed of rotation
increased to 12,000rpm

6.
The cement and water mixture should be left on the
blender for at least 35 seconds at a speed of 12,000rpm, after the blender
should be switched off.

It will be observed that the temperature of
the mixing blender container increased during the blending, this shows that
cement mixing and the setting is an exothermic reaction.

CAUTION:

1.
Care must be taken when transferring the dry
cement into the mixing blender to prevent spillage.

2.
Ensure that the analytical balance was zeroed
before taking measurement
