HEADS UP! YOUR CERTIFICATE HAS EXPIRED!

DID YOU KNOW? The validity of your certificate might reduce drastically even before you graduate? especially students who were supposed to graduate in 2020.

LET ME EXPLAIN

During recruitment, most companies tend to cut down the number of applicants using age and date of graduation as inscribed in the certificate.

For example, during the last recruitment conducted by Matrix Energy, (late 2020) only applicants with certificates dated 2018 and 2019, were allowed to write the job test.

This is very bad, as many persons who graduated in 2017 were not even given any chance at all.

HOW IT CONCERNS YOU

It is such an unfortunate situation for 2019/2020 academic session graduates, who are theoretical graduates but practically are yet to graduate and will graduate this year (2021).

If they graduate in 2021 and their certificate is dated 2020, they are already one year behind in the job market.

It will be so not good if the certificates issued to the “would have been” class of 2020 is dated 2020.

Like we all know 2020 is gone, gone like chaff blown from rice.

The companies do not care if strike action by ASUU, PENGASSAN, or pandemics delayed your graduation and hence will have no mercy when setting the criteria for recruitment.

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), The various Student Union Government, Student Representative Council, Tribal heads, and all student stakeholders must come together to take a closer look at this issue.

The Student Union alongside the stakeholders should liaise with their management to see the possibility of the 2019/2020 academic session certificates to be dated 2021.

Otherwise, the supposed 2019/2020 graduates may be leaving school with an expired or at least a devalued certificate.

We cannot change the policies of the recruiting companies, but at least now that we have the chance we can attempt to help the situation, the Time to Act is Now!
