Effective communication is what makes a communication process successful without any complications or misunderstandings.

Misunderstandings are major communication problems that ought to be avoided when conveying an idea or a message.

Communication is the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another.

Every communication involves (at least) one sender, a message and a recipient. These include our emotions, the cultural situation, the medium used to communicate, and even our location.

Effective Communication is a communication between two or more persons wherein the intended message is successfully delivered, received, and understood. it takes great or real skill to be an effective communicator that is why there is a saying that goes; practice makes perfect. To communicate ideas to board members, business clients, customers, and so on, you must learn how to communicate effectively to yield a desired result or output.

There are elements of communication that are encoder (sender), the channel of delivery or communication (medium), decoder (receiver or recipient), message, and feedbacks. These elements work together for effective communication. Communication is said to be effective if the receiver or recipient which is the decoder was able to decode and understand your message or thoughts, or ideas, and a feedback system was involved without misunderstandings.

You learn to study your environment, the person even for a second before you communicate, you think on the method/medium which you should use whether facial, handwritten, calls, emails or any other means of communication that will be suitable and that can easily be transferred and understood by the receiver.

The 7Cs for Effective Communication are Paramount in any good communication system.

  1. Clear: A message that has no agenda or reason or purpose or not well placed or arranged is likely to give a wrong meaning. Clear messages easily avoid misunderstandings and also fast communication. Your message should be clear.
  2. Correct Message: Avoid wrong spellings, even the name of the receiver, address, or message content. The words should be properly spelled since some words may have more than one meaning or may be wrongly interpreted. Your messages should be correct, read all typing or words before sending a message.
  3. Complete Message: when passing an idea or information, make sure it is a complete message because sometimes our receivers might not have the time to search for info. when writing a letter to someone or an invitation to someone, it is important your message is complete. For example, you can’t write to invite someone without putting the location of the event, date, and time, and also directions to the location for those that may not know the direction.
  4. Concrete: your message should be true it should have a true sentiment about it. it is dangerous to write false information to someone. so make sure whatever message you are passing onto someone is true.
  5. Coherence: coherence is important in effective communication. Your points in your message should be placed in an orderly manner. Each point should follow accordingly with the intention of bringing easy and fast understanding.
  6. Concise: do not let your message belong yet has no information clearly stated. your message should be concise, short, and comprehensive with meaning or with the right information passed across to the receiver.
  7. Courtesy: this is important. you can’t forget or neglect this. courtesy is an act of showing respect for the receiver. this is the showing of politeness in one’s attitude and behavior towards the receiver. start being polite by knowing the name and initials of a recipient before addressing a letter to him/her and closing a message passed with greetings.
